Qatar, Egypt, Pakistan propose 10-day ceasefire between US, Iran

Published on: July 21, 2026 8:26 PM

Qatar, Egypt, Pakistan, and other regional mediators have proposed a 10-day ceasefire between the United States and Iran, according to US media reports. The proposal aims to reduce tensions and address concerns over the Strait of Hormuz.

The Axios report said mediators presented the proposal to Washington and Tehran as both sides continue military exchanges. Neither the United States nor Iran has accepted the suggested ceasefire so far.

According to the report, US President Donald Trump is considering possible options amid the ongoing conflict. One option involves pursuing a temporary truce to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, while another includes further military action.

Meanwhile, regional sources familiar with the mediation efforts said Qatar, Egypt, and Pakistan were among those involved in diplomatic contacts. They said efforts were focused on finding a path toward reducing escalation.

The proposal comes as tensions remain high in the Gulf region following continued attacks between the United States and Iran. The Strait of Hormuz remains a key concern due to its importance for global energy shipments.

Additionally, US officials said discussions were ongoing but indicated that Washington had not completed its response to recent attacks. The United States has linked its position to the deaths of American personnel in regional incidents.

The mediators’ efforts reflect growing international concerns over the wider impact of the conflict. Regional countries continue diplomatic engagement to seek stability and prevent further escalation.
