NAB to present new witness in Avenfield case today

Published on: April 20, 2018 10:27 AM

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is expected to present today NAB Operations Director General (DG) Zahir Shah as its latest witness in the Avenfield Properties reference against the Sharif family.

DG Shah will present evidence he acquired from the British government and that claims that the London apartments the Sharif family owns were transferred to offshore companies Nielson and Nescoll in 1993-95 and not in 2005-06, as the Sharif’s have claimed.

The implications of this new evidence rest on the fact that Nawaz Sharif’s sons Hussain and Hasan did not have any sources of income in 1993-95, and thus cannot be considered owners of those properties.

Thus, the new evidence argues that the ownership of the property rested with former PM Nawaz Sharif.

Mr. Sharif’s counsel has opposed the plea to submit the fresh evidence.

The court headed by Judge Mohammad Bashir will hear the arguments of both sides over the plea, and then decide on the matter.
