Must ensure supremacy of Constitution: Dastagir

Published on: May 9, 2018 9:47 PM

ISLAMABAD: Defense Minister Khurram Dastagir on Wednesday stressed the need to ensure supremacy of the Constitution, while also reiterating that PML-N is determined to transform Pakistan into a developed and prosperous nation.

Resuming budget debate in the National Assembly, the lawmaker said that the country was created via democratic struggle and that the the true spirit of democracy is elected members pulling the strings.

Lauding the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government’s performance during the ongoing tenure, Dastagir said the ruling body has turned “the impossible into possible via its efforts” and that PML-N has also restored peace in North and South Waziristan as well as Karachi.

He added that the country was put on path of progress due to winning policies of the PML-N and that the ruling party has worked tirelessly for initiation, implementation and successful completion of projects across the country.

Dastagir said he witnessed a new dawn in Miranshah few days ago where a state-of-the-art bazaar was inaugurated by the prime minister. “Equipments and gadgets of terrorism were being sold in the Miranshah bazaar some five years ago but now owing to the sacrifices of armed forces and government commitment, the whole area has been purged from the terrorists,” he said.

He said 969 MW Neelum-Jhelum project, which was earlier considered an impossible task, was inaugurated by PM Abbasi last month, while new transmission lines were also laid.

The lawmaker also lauded said former prime minister Nawaz Sharif saying that PML-N, under Nawaz’s leadership and due to the trust of voters, has successfully engineered the otherwise impossible projects.
