Politicians, journalists react to Avenfield verdict

Published on: July 6, 2018 7:03 PM

Several polticians and journalists took to twitter to comment on the Avenfield verdict that has sentenced former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Nawaz Sharif to 10 and seven years, respectively, in jail.

PTI’s Jehangir Tareen

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Jehangir Khan Tareen termed the verdict as a ‘great victory for Pakistan’.

NS's fabricated narrative that he got ousted only for holding an Iqama, has been torn to shreds after NAB Court's historic verdict. 'Mujhe Kyun Nikala Sharif' finally gets the answer that he has been jailed for being a Chor & a Money Launderer. Great victory for Pakistan 😊

— Jahangir Khan Tareen (@JahangirKTareen) July 6, 2018

PTI Chairman Imran Khan has said all Pakistanis should offer prayer of thanks over the Avenfield case verdict.

PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif has rejected the verdict “strongly” saying history would remember it in “black words”.

Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) strongly rejects the verdict of the Accountability Court in the Avenfield case. History will remember this verdict in black words. The decision is flawed, politically motivated & has glaring loopholes.

Renowned journalist Kamran Khan

Renowned journalist Kamran Khan took on twitter to say:

judgment is Imran Khan’s dream coming true, if he himself had to write verdict Khan Sb couldn’t have penned such a ‘good’ judgment Nawaz Sharif 10 years Jail, Maryam 7 years, Maryam/Nawaz 10 million sterling, Rs.400 crore London flats…Hussain Hassan absconder

Moreover, commenting on the verdict Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) leader Khursheed Shah said the timing of the verdict is not good as it would benifit Nawaz Sharif.

Veteran poltician Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad said Nawaz Sharif wants the people to come out on the roads to whom ‘they didn’t even provide basic facilities’.
