Senate Chairman, Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani, on Wednesday, called for active participation from both public and private sectors in the tree plantation drive to increase forest cover.
He said this while inaugurating a similar campaign opposite Hill View Park, Islamabad, organised by Hashoo Group. The chairman noted that the Upper House was actively pursuing the agenda of Clean and Green Pakistan. He also talked about the workable plan for eco-conservation suggested by the Standing Committee on Climate Change and the dedicated Climate Change Casus, which aimed to take stakeholders onboard.
Sanjrani said that plants contribute positively towards improving human health on top of making the environment esthetically beautiful.
There remained a need to plant maximum trees in areas with less forest density, he maintained.
The chairman asserted that better coordination among the federating units was essential for taking concrete measures and promoting the cause of environment. He took pride in the fact that the Senate had always taken a proactive approach to legislate on environmental issues.
Further, Sanjrani also called upon the private sector to come forward and plant maximum trees in far-flung areas of the country. He recalled that a special plantation campaign drive had been launched at the eve of the meeting of Asian Parliamentary Assembly for the Green Gwadar Program. Calling Gwadar the future of the country, Senate Chairman called for a special focus on making it greener and beautiful.
Sanjrani urged the corporate entities to formulate strategies revolving around people and planet while making such initiatives a part of their corporate social responsibility. The developing world was said to be bearing the brunt of climate change in the shape of different natural disasters. Thus, there remained a need to make coordinated efforts to mitigate the negative effects of climate change, he concluded.
