A high-level delegation led by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari met with members of the US Congress in Washington. The team stressed the urgent need for dialogue between Pakistan and India to bring lasting peace to the region. They emphasized that the Kashmir dispute remains an unfinished agenda of the United Nations. Bilawal highlighted that peace depends on mutual respect, dialogue, and restraint, not on threats or force.
During the meetings, Bilawal informed lawmakers about India’s recent unprovoked attacks, including the targeting of civilians. He also criticized India’s unilateral suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. The delegation praised the constructive role of former US President Donald Trump in helping to reduce tensions and supporting ceasefire efforts. Moreover, they called for respect for international law and UN resolutions to resolve conflicts peacefully.
The Pakistani delegation included former foreign ministers and senior officials. They discussed counterterrorism efforts, regional peace, and the need to reject false accusations. Meanwhile, US Congress members welcomed the delegation’s visit. They urged both Pakistan and India to show restraint and prioritize stability in South Asia. They also reaffirmed US support for Pakistan’s economic development.
In addition to Washington, the team plans to visit London and Brussels to continue their outreach. The delegation recently met with the UN Secretary-General and Security Council members in New York. Pakistan aims to share its viewpoint and counter India’s growing lobbying efforts abroad. Bilawal stressed that only dialogue can solve the challenges in the region, not military actions.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also praised Trump’s role in achieving the ceasefire after recent border clashes. He called the Pahalgam incident a false-flag operation. Shehbaz urged India to provide proof for its claims, which Pakistan has rejected. Both leaders continue to seek international support for peace and dialogue to prevent further conflict.
