The Punjab government has approved and released a grant of Rs42 billion for the 2025–26 cycle of its key low-income housing initiative, ‘Apni Chhat Apna Ghar’. This major public welfare scheme is designed to help deserving families secure safe, affordable, and dignified homes.
Punjab Secretary for Housing, Noor-ul-Amin Mengal, stated that more than 51,000 families have benefited from the program since its launch. He highlighted the government’s commitment to tackling the housing crisis in both urban and rural areas, especially for the economically weaker segments of society.
The total investment in the scheme so far has crossed Rs60.5 billion, making it one of Punjab’s most ambitious development projects in the housing sector. These funds cover land acquisition, construction, infrastructure, and basic utilities such as clean water, sanitation, and electricity.
Mengal added that construction of 6,160 houses has been completed, while work is actively underway on 45,163 homes across various districts. These include both single-family units and community-based housing clusters, with priority given to families without permanent shelter, widows, and people with disabilities.
With this new funding boost, the Punjab government aims to speed up the construction process, ensure on-ground progress, and increase access to decent housing amid rising population and urban challenges. The scheme is seen as a key part of Punjab’s social safety net and a step toward reducing homelessness and promoting equitable development.
