Sindh Assembly approves salary, allowance boost for members

Published on: August 9, 2025 12:56 PM

Karachi: The Sindh Assembly unanimously approved a bill to increase the salaries and allowances of its members. The bill was presented by the Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Zia ul Hasan Lanjari, during the recent session chaired by Speaker Syed Owais Qadir Shah. Members from both government and opposition supported the bill, which passed with full consensus.

The bill was first approved by the Sindh Cabinet on August 7 and later moved to the assembly for final approval. The new law ensures that members from all parties benefit equally from the salary and allowance increases. It also grants them many new perks and privileges.

Allowances covered in the bill include hospitality, house rent, utility bills, daily allowances, conveyance, accommodation, traveling, and mileage. Members will also receive free travel facilities, telephone benefits, medical treatment, and office maintenance allowances. Furthermore, any other allowances recommended by a parliamentary committee of the Sindh Assembly will be included.

This move aims to improve the welfare of assembly members and acknowledge their duties more fairly. The government expects that these changes will boost members’ morale and help them better serve their constituencies.

The unanimous support from all parties highlights a rare moment of unity in the Sindh Assembly, reflecting the importance placed on providing adequate support to lawmakers. Members will now receive better financial and administrative support to fulfill their legislative responsibilities.
