The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government announced the closure of all government and private schools in the cold mountainous areas for a week, from August 19 to August 25, 2025, due to heavy rains.
KP Education Minister Faisal Khan Tarakai confirmed the decision, stating that cloudbursts, flash floods, and continuous rainfall in the high-altitude regions pose risks to students, prompting authorities to take precautionary measures immediately.
He added that although schools will remain closed physically, all educational activities will continue at home or online, ensuring students do not miss their lessons despite the severe weather conditions in the region.
Authorities clarified that summer vacations in these mountainous areas usually last only one month, from July 1 to 31, but this temporary closure has been extended for safety reasons given the ongoing extreme weather.
In addition, all schools across Swat and the Malakand Division will remain closed during the same period as heavy rainfall continues to affect roads, communication, and daily life across the region.
The KP government urged parents and guardians to monitor children during the closure, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow safety instructions issued by local administration until the weather improves.
