KP CM orders quick flood compensation, urgent rehabilitation

Published on: September 1, 2025 3:42 PM

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur on Monday directed authorities to speed up the disbursement of compensation to flood victims and immediately begin rehabilitation efforts across all affected districts.

Chairing a video-link meeting with officials from flood-hit areas, the Chief Minister reviewed ongoing relief and recovery measures. Key participants included the Finance Advisor, Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Relief Secretary, DG PDMA, and Deputy Commissioners.

Officials informed the CM that the recent floods had claimed 411 lives. Compensation has already been provided to 352 families, totaling PKR 704 million. Meanwhile, 60 out of 132 injured individuals have received payments amounting to PKR 30 million.

Data collection for damaged houses is complete. Compensation has been distributed for 367 fully destroyed homes and 1,094 partially damaged houses, totaling PKR 595 million, with remaining payments expected within two days. Additionally, 29,631 food packages have reached affected families.

CM Gandapur instructed officials to start rehabilitation work immediately after completing compensation. He emphasized that Deputy Commissioners must personally oversee the restoration of roads, bridges, schools, health centers, and other damaged infrastructure across districts.

He also ordered preparation of PC-1s in the field rather than offices and announced a major project for desilting rivers, clearing water channels, building protective embankments, and preventing future flood damage. Officials were directed to remove encroachments and compile water flow records of the past 40 years.

The Chief Minister highlighted the efficiency of the civil administration during emergency relief and praised their swift actions. He urged that the same dedication continue during the rehabilitation phase to restore normal life for affected communities.
