Karachi Businesses Alarmed by Rising Extortion Case

Published on: October 8, 2025 10:30 AM

Karachi’s business community has raised alarms over a sharp increase in Karachi extortion cases. Trade and industrial groups demand immediate government action. They warn that fear and insecurity threaten investments, jobs, and economic activity in the city.

The Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) and All City Traders Ittehad reported 96 extortion cases this year. District Central faced the highest number with 37, followed by West, East, City, Malir, and Korangi. Traders claim some threats involved bullets and intimidation.

Authorities have arrested 33 alleged extortionists, while four suspects were killed in police encounters. Despite this, traders say organized networks continue operations. Industrial zones like Korangi remain particularly vulnerable, with factory owners living under constant fear.

Business leaders warned that extortion networks may be funneling funds abroad. They urged the Sindh governor, chief minister, police, and Rangers to create a joint strategy to dismantle these groups. Traders pledged full cooperation with authorities to restore safety.

The community emphasized that Karachi extortion cases pose serious economic risks if ignored. Leaders called for practical measures to secure business operations, protect investments, and restore confidence in the city’s markets.
