PESHAWAR — In a politically charged session on Monday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmaker Sohail Afridi was elected as the new Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), following days of controversy over outgoing CM Ali Amin Gandapur’s resignation.
The election, held amid tense scenes in the KP Assembly, was boycotted by opposition parties, who termed the process “unconstitutional” and “engineered.” PTI lawmakers, however, maintained that the procedure fully complied with assembly rules.
Afridi secured a comfortable majority in the House, cementing PTI’s continued control over the province even after Gandapur’s sudden departure.
