Rohit, Kohli power India to dominant win over Australia

Published on: October 25, 2025 6:36 PM

India wrapped up their Australia tour with a commanding win in the third ODI, chasing down 237 with 69 balls to spare at a packed Sydney Cricket Ground. Rohit Sharma led from the front with a majestic unbeaten 121, while Virat Kohli silenced critics with a composed 74 not out after two early failures in the series.

Both veterans, who have retired from Test and T20 cricket, likely played their final ODI innings on Australian soil. Rohit reflected emotionally after the match, saying it had been a joy playing in Australia over the years. “A lot of good memories, bad memories, but I’ll take it all,” the 38-year-old said with a smile.

Australia, who had already sealed the series after wins in Adelaide and Perth, struggled to build momentum after choosing to bat. They were bowled out for 236, losing seven wickets for just 53 runs in the final stretch. Harshit Rana was the standout bowler for India, taking 4 for 39, while Matt Renshaw top-scored with 56 for the hosts.

Rohit and Shubman Gill gave India a strong start before Kohli joined the chase with classic timing and control. Their unbeaten partnership sealed the victory and delighted Indian fans in the stands. Rohit struck 13 fours and three sixes in his 33rd ODI hundred, while Kohli registered his 75th half-century in style.

Kohli praised his long-time teammate, saying, “When Rohit is batting, it’s easy to rotate strike. We understand each other’s game perfectly.” Both players thanked Australian fans for their support, calling the country a “special place” in their cricketing journey.
