Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) reported a severe water shortage this November, attributing the crisis to prolonged electricity outages at major pumping stations across the city.
A KWSC spokesperson revealed that the city faced a shortfall of 884 million gallons in the first 23 days due to repeated power suspensions by K-Electric, which disrupted pumping operations significantly.

The Dhabeji pumping station was the hardest hit, with 132 hours and 20 minutes of electricity outages, causing a shortfall of 424 million gallons, the spokesperson added.
Similarly, Dumloti station faced 146 hours of outages, leading to a shortage of 111 million gallons, while North East Karachi station reported a deficit of 335 million gallons.

Smaller stations including Hub, Pipri, and Gharo also experienced shortages, ranging from 2 to 6 million gallons, highlighting the widespread impact of power interruptions on the city’s water supply.
KWSC assured that coordination with K-Electric has improved and water supply has returned to normal, with ongoing measures to prevent future disruptions and ensure continuous supply for residents.
