Apple trims sales teams in small job cuts

Apple Inc. announced on Monday that it is cutting jobs across its sales teams as part of efforts to strengthen customer engagement, with only a small number of roles affected, the company said.

An Apple spokesperson told Reuters that the company continues to hire, and impacted employees are eligible to apply for new positions within the organization. The layoffs primarily affect account managers serving major businesses, schools, and government agencies, according to Bloomberg News.

Employees operating Apple’s briefing centers, where institutional meetings and product demonstrations are conducted, were also among those impacted. One of the major targets was a government sales team working with agencies including the U.S. Defense Department and Justice Department.

The affected teams had already faced challenges following a 43-day government shutdown and cutbacks imposed by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Bloomberg reported. Apple emphasized that the changes are intended to refocus resources on customer engagement rather than a broad reduction in workforce.

The company joins a growing list of tech firms announcing layoffs in recent weeks. Verizon, Synopsys, and IBM have also revealed job cuts as businesses adjust to economic pressures and shifting priorities in the post-pandemic landscape.

Apple’s move highlights the company’s strategy to optimize sales operations while maintaining overall hiring in other areas. Staff affected by the reductions will have opportunities to transition to other roles, reflecting Apple’s commitment to retaining talent during the restructuring.
