Elon Musk calls for EU to be dismantled after $140 million fine

Published on: December 8, 2025 11:50 PM

Elon Musk demanded the European Union be dismantled after it fined his social media platform X $140 million. He said individual countries should regain full control to better represent their citizens. Musk emphasized he was serious and not joking about the statement.

Musk shared his views on X, saying he loves Europe but dislikes the EU’s bureaucracy. He called the EU a “bureaucratic monster” and criticized its heavy digital regulations. The fine was imposed because X allegedly violated European data privacy and content moderation rules.

The €120 million fine, about $140 million, has sparked strong reactions online. Musk argued that such strict rules hinder innovation and restrict free speech on social platforms. He also said governments should have more flexibility to regulate tech companies locally.

This is not the first time Musk has faced criticism over regulatory issues. Reports revealed his immigration law violations in Europe during the 1990s. Analysts say Musk’s reaction reflects broader debates about EU governance, national sovereignty, and corporate freedom in digital markets.

The fine and Musk’s statements have attracted attention from U.S. politicians and media. Even the Trump administration criticized the EU’s decision. Musk’s comments may further fuel discussions about EU reforms, digital regulation, and the future of global tech policies.
