Punjab CM scheme expands to private students

Published on: December 11, 2025 5:18 PM

The Punjab government has decided to include private university students in the Chief Minister Laptop Scheme, marking the first time laptops will be provided to this group under the program.

In the first phase, 10,000 laptops will be distributed among students of private universities. The Higher Education Department has already started preparations to implement the project efficiently and ensure timely delivery.

Originally launched during the previous PML-N government, the laptop scheme aimed to support students with digital learning tools. It was suspended during the PTI era, leaving many students without access to government-provided laptops.

With the revival of the scheme under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, both public and private university students will benefit. Officials say the program will enhance digital learning opportunities and improve access to online education resources.

The government has emphasised fair and transparent distribution of laptops. Universities will coordinate with the Higher Education Department to ensure students meet eligibility criteria and receive devices promptly without bureaucratic delays.

Officials have also stated that future phases may expand the program to cover additional students, ensuring wider access to laptops and supporting education across Punjab’s higher education institutions.
