Ceasefire fails as Gaza children continue dying

Published on: January 13, 2026 6:22 PM

At least 100 children have been killed in Gaza since a fragile ceasefire began three months ago, the United Nations said, warning that violence continues to claim young lives despite reduced fighting.

The children’s agency UNICEF reported that at least 60 boys and 40 girls have died since early October, as airstrikes, drones, tank shelling, and live fire persist across the besieged territory.

Speaking from Gaza City, UNICEF spokesman James Elder said children are dying almost daily during the ceasefire, stressing that the confirmed toll likely understates reality because ongoing attacks hinder full casualty verification.

Meanwhile, Gaza’s health ministry recorded higher figures, reporting 165 children killed during the same period among 442 total deaths, while seven children also died from cold exposure since the start of the year.

Elder added that more than two years of war have devastated childhood in Gaza, leaving widespread trauma untreated, aid access restricted, and humanitarian needs unmet after international agencies and journalists were barred from entry.
