TikTok outage hits US users after data center failure

Published on: February 3, 2026 9:48 PM

TikTok experienced widespread service disruptions across the United States and parts of North America on Monday, as a power outage at a US data center affected video uploads and content visibility for users.

The outage began early Monday morning, with users reporting difficulties in uploading videos, accessing new content, and noticing that their TikTok algorithm appeared to reset, although it remains unclear if the algorithm issue was directly related.

A TikTok USDS spokesperson said the company has been actively working to restore services following the power failure. The statement confirmed that other apps operated by TikTok were also impacted by the outage.

TikTok USDS, recently acquired by Oracle and a group of investors with links to the Trump administration, routes US user data through Oracle-managed data centers, which are also expected to host a US-specific algorithm.

The company did not clarify whether the outage was caused by the Oracle-managed facility itself or by the massive snowstorm that recently affected large parts of the United States, leaving users uncertain about service reliability.

The disruption comes at a critical moment as TikTok USDS begins operations under new management, raising concerns about censorship, privacy, and stability, highlighting the challenges of maintaining consistent service for millions of American users.
