The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) on Tuesday urged the federal government to intervention in Sindh’s governance matters and appoint an arbitrator, along with a high-level judicial commission, to examine alleged administrative and security failures, particularly in Karachi.

Addressing a press conference at the party’s Bahadurabad headquarters, senior MQM-P leader Dr Farooq Sattar, accompanied by Haider Abbas Rizvi, criticised what he described as an “oppressive and feudal” system of governance in Sindh, warning that it had pushed the province towards serious administrative and law and order challenges.

Dr Sattar said Karachi, despite being Pakistan’s economic hub, continued to be deprived of its constitutional and administrative rights. He demanded the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the recent fire at Gul Plaza and to assess broader governance failures across the province.
Calling on the federal government and relevant state institutions to step in, he urged them to act as arbitrators in Karachi’s affairs and to constitute a high-level judicial commission to review administrative lapses and the deteriorating security situation.
The MQM-P leader also expressed concern over what he claimed was the withdrawal of security for party leaders. He said police authorities had informed the party that security cover had been removed, creating serious risks. While some assurances of partial restoration were reportedly given after media coverage, he maintained that the situation on the ground remained troubling. He warned that if the Sindh government failed to provide protection, the party would seek security arrangements from Islamabad police.
Dr Sattar praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir for what he termed their efforts to improve Pakistan’s international standing and restore confidence in the country’s passport. He said such efforts should not be undermined by governance failures in Sindh.

Criticising the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), he urged Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari to ensure the implementation of Article 140-A of the Constitution, which calls for the devolution of powers to local governments.
Meanwhile, Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan rejected MQM-P’s claims, calling them baseless and stating that no decision had been taken to withdraw security from any MQM-P leaders.
