PCB replies to ICC over India boycott

Published on: February 7, 2026 10:15 PM

The Pakistan Cricket Board has responded to a letter from the International Cricket Council over the India match boycott. The issue relates to Pakistan’s decision not to play India in the T20 World Cup. Sources confirmed the reply was sent after formal ICC contact.

According to sources, the ICC had written to the PCB following Pakistan’s boycott announcement. The decision was taken after government approval to play the tournament but not the India fixture. The PCB replied after consultations at official levels.

Sources said the PCB has not made its response public. The ICC will decide whether to disclose details of the communication. Meanwhile, the ICC has contacted other cricket boards to help resolve the situation through dialogue.

Pakistan’s decision is linked to objections over what officials describe as ICC’s biased handling of Bangladesh. Government sources said Pakistan wanted to show solidarity with Bangladesh. They accused ICC leadership of applying different standards to different countries.

Sri Lanka Cricket has urged the PCB to reconsider the boycott. Sri Lankan media reported that hotel bookings were cancelled due to uncertainty around the match. Officials warned the decision could harm Sri Lanka’s tourism and economic recovery.
