According to university officials, the student, a resident of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, was living in the government hostel on campus. Fellow students discovered her lying in a pool of blood and immediately alerted the administration, after which she was rushed to the emergency department of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, which is affiliated with the university.
Doctors reported that she had sustained severe head and neck trauma along with multiple fractures. Despite undergoing major neurosurgery performed by a team of senior specialists, she succumbed to her injuries.
FJMU Vice Chancellor Khalid Masood Gondal said the student appeared to have fallen from the hostel building and that her condition remained critical throughout treatment. He announced the formation of a medical board comprising senior doctors to review the clinical aspects of the case, along with a five-member fact-finding committee to investigate the incident. The panel is headed by Dean Undergraduate Studies Bilquis Shabbir and has been tasked with submitting its report within 24 hours.
While the administration suggested the possibility of an accidental fall, some eyewitnesses and sources within the institution claimed the student may have jumped in an apparent suicide attempt. No immediate motive or contributing factors were identified.
