OGDCL breakthrough as Pasakhi-13 boosts output

Published on: March 24, 2026 5:45 PM

State-owned Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has started oil production from Pasakhi-13 well in Hyderabad. The milestone marks Pakistan’s first successful horizontal oil well using advanced drilling technology. The development is expected to strengthen energy supply and support the national economy.

The well is currently producing 460 barrels of oil per day, according to company officials. Drilling operations reached a depth of 2,966 metres before completion. Additionally, engineers executed a 546-metre side-track using modern techniques to enhance output.

Notably, the use of horizontal drilling has significantly improved production levels at the site. Officials reported that output has nearly tripled compared to conventional methods. As a result, the project highlights the effectiveness of adopting advanced extraction technologies.

Furthermore, the Pasakhi-13 project is seen as a positive step for Pakistan’s energy sector. Increased domestic oil production could help reduce reliance on imports. It may also contribute to stabilizing energy costs and improving supply reliability.
