Karachi Police arrested a three-member gang allegedly involved in robbing female students of Jinnah Medical and Dental College and recovered the stolen items along with weapons.
The incident, which took place on the morning of March 26 in the Bahadurabad area, was a major challenge for the police and left the students deeply traumatised. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) East Zubair Nazir Sheikh, the East Police solved the case within 72 hours.
CCTV cameras played a crucial role in tracing the case. A camera installed at the crime scene captured the entire incident. The footage shows three suspects riding a single motorcycle. They parked the bike in front of the students’ van and waited for the right moment. At 8:12am, two of the robbers entered the van and completed the robbery within a minute before fleeing with their third accomplice, who was waiting on the motorcycle.
Police began tracking the suspects using footage from multiple CCTV cameras. After stopping at three different locations, the suspects entered Lines Area. SSP East stated that both digital and human intelligence were used to apprehend the culprits, with human intelligence playing a key role in locating them in Lines Area.
The police identified all three suspects and planned to arrest them simultaneously. Raids were scheduled for Sunday morning to ensure all suspects were at their respective homes at the same time.
The arrested suspects were identified as Sameer, Shahab, and Amjad. Police recovered two mobile phones belonging to the students, college bags, books, three pistols, and the motorcycle used in the crime.
According to police, the suspects are residents of Karachi and have previously been involved in multiple street crimes. During the robbery, the suspects theatrically greeted the students by saying, “Assalam-o-Alaikum, ladies and gentlemen, hand over whatever you have.” IG Sindh Javed Alam Odho announced cash rewards and commendation certificates for the police team involved in solving the case, while Sindh Interior Minister Zia-ul-Hasan Lanjar praised SSP East and his team.
