Lahore experiences rain, hailstorm

Published on: April 1, 2026 12:55 AM

The provincial capital and adjacent areas on Tuesday evening received rain and hailstorm which turned the weather pleasant.

After the rainfall, cool winds led to a drop in temperature. Rain associated with gusty winds and hailstorm created ponds on various locations including Shimla Hill, Qartaba Chowk, Laxmi Chowk, Railway Station, Nishter Town, Johar Town and Davis Road.

Water and Sanitation Agency Lahore stated that 50 mm of rain was recorded in Nishtar Town, 32 mm in Johar Town, 16.5 mm on Jail Road, 16.6 mm in Gulberg, and 19 mm in Chowk Nakhuda.

Lahore’s average AQI recorded at 95

The city recorded an average Air Quality Index (AQI) of 95, placing it in the “moderate” category, indicating that air quality remained acceptable for most individuals, though sensitive groups could experience minor health effects.

However, the concentration of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) was measured at six times higher than the annual guideline value recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), raising concerns about prolonged exposure. Experts warn that sustained levels of PM2.5 pollution at such elevated concentrations can pose significant health risks, particularly for children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing respiratory or cardiovascular conditions.
