India calls Lebanon situation alarming

Published on: April 10, 2026 11:30 PM

India’s Modi government has spoken out on the Middle East crisis amid rising domestic criticism. This marks the first official response from New Delhi on the escalating situation. The statement comes as international concern grows over violence in Lebanon.

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs expressed concern over large-scale casualties in Lebanon. Without naming Israel, the ministry stressed respect for international law and national sovereignty. Officials described the situation as deeply troubling.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the developments are “highly concerning.” He added that India closely follows the situation due to its role in United Nations peacekeeping missions. India said it has a strong interest in Lebanon’s peace and stability.

The statement comes amid heightened global scrutiny over ongoing violence in Lebanon. Recent reports suggest intensified airstrikes despite ceasefire-related developments in the region. Civil defence sources have reported rising casualties and injuries in the conflict.
