France, UK plan Hormuz security mission

Published on: April 13, 2026 11:34 PM

France and the United Kingdom will host talks to form a peaceful multinational mission for the Strait of Hormuz. French President Emmanuel Macron announced the plan on Monday. The initiative aims to restore safe maritime traffic through the strategic waterway. It comes amid ongoing regional tensions affecting navigation.

Macron said the upcoming conference will include countries willing to contribute to the mission. He stressed that the effort is designed to ensure freedom of navigation. The proposal is expected to remain strictly defensive in nature. It will be deployed when conditions allow.

The Strait of Hormuz remains a vital global shipping route for energy supplies. Any disruption could impact international trade and energy prices. European leaders are now seeking coordinated maritime security measures. The move reflects growing concern over regional stability.

The initiative follows stalled Iran–United States negotiations in recent days. Diplomatic efforts have so far failed to produce a lasting agreement. International stakeholders continue to push for de-escalation. The situation remains closely monitored by global powers.
