BEIRUT: A 10-day ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel has come into effect, prompting widespread celebrations in the Lebanese capital Beirut, where residents took to the streets to mark the pause in hostilities.

Crowds gathered across the city, cheering and waving flags, while some celebrants resorted to aerial firing to express their joy following days of heightened tensions and conflict. The ceasefire, agreed for an initial period of 10 days, is being seen as a crucial opportunity to de-escalate the situation and pave the way for further diplomatic engagement.

After the 10-day ceasefire between #Lebanon and “Israel” officially took effect, celebrations erupted across Lebanon, with families pouring into the streets and many already rushing back to their towns, villages, and neighborhoods.

Meanwhile, in Tehran, supporters chanted slogans in favour of Hezbollah, reflecting strong regional reactions to the truce. Iranian officials have framed the ceasefire as a strategic outcome of resistance efforts.

Esmail Qaani, head of the Quds Force of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, said the people of Lebanon and the broader region recognise Hezbollah as the victor in what he described as a decisive conflict. He added that the ceasefire was made possible due to the group’s resilience and continued support from Iran.

The development comes amid broader diplomatic efforts aimed at stabilising the region, with multiple stakeholders seeking to prevent further escalation. Observers caution, however, that the situation remains fragile, and the success of the ceasefire will depend on adherence by both sides and continued dialogue.

While the celebrations highlight public relief, concerns remain over the potential for renewed tensions once the temporary truce expires, underscoring the need for sustained diplomatic efforts to secure lasting peace.
