Zilqad moon sighting expected across Pakistan on April 18

Published on: April 17, 2026 6:29 PM

Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission has indicated that there are strong chances of the Zilqad 1447 Hijri moon being visible on April 18 across several regions. Moreover, the agency based its prediction on astronomical calculations involving the new moon’s birth and expected visibility conditions. As a result, the upcoming Islamic month is likely to begin shortly after confirmed sighting reports.

According to SUPARCO’s observations, the new moon will be born on April 17 at 16:52, creating favorable conditions for visibility the following evening. In addition, by April 18, the moon will be over 26 hours old at sunset, which significantly increases the probability of sighting. Consequently, scientific indicators suggest improved clarity for observers in multiple locations across the country.

Furthermore, coastal regions are expected to have particularly better visibility conditions due to an approximate 81-minute gap between sunset and moonset. In addition, this extended duration provides a wider observation window for crescent sighting. As a result, experts believe coastal areas may report earlier confirmations compared to inland regions. These factors collectively strengthen the likelihood of successful observation.

Meanwhile, the scientific estimate suggests that the first day of Zilqad is expected to fall on April 19. However, officials emphasize that the final decision will depend on verified testimonies submitted to the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. Moreover, traditional sighting methods remain essential for confirming the start of the Islamic month. Consequently, official announcement will follow after thorough review of reports.

In addition, religious authorities continue to coordinate with scientific bodies to ensure accurate moon sighting verification. Furthermore, both astronomical data and eyewitness reports are evaluated before making the final declaration. As a result, the process maintains a balance between modern science and traditional observation practices. This approach helps ensure consistency in lunar calendar decisions.

Overall, the expected visibility of the Zilqad moon highlights the importance of combining scientific forecasting with religious verification systems. Moreover, it reflects improved accuracy in predicting lunar phases using modern technology. Consequently, citizens across Pakistan await the official announcement regarding the start of the new Islamic month. The final confirmation will determine the exact beginning of Zilqad celebrations.
