Over 3.03m driving licences issued, Rs 6.5bn fines imposed in Punjab

Published on: April 21, 2026 3:53 AM

Punjab Police issued over 3.03 million driving licences and imposed fines exceeding Rs6.5 billion during the ongoing year as part of a province-wide crackdown to ensure enforcement of traffic laws and improve public service delivery.

A spokesperson said on Monday that more than 3.55 million challans were issued for traffic violations. As many as 34,877 smoke-emitting vehicles were challaned, 5,984 vehicles impounded at police stations, and fitness certificates of 28 vehicles confiscated.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Abdul Kareem, while directing continued action against violators, said implementation of amended traffic laws, reforms, and modern systems must be ensured at all costs. He stressed strict and indiscriminate action against traffic violations.

The IGP further directed SHOs and SDPOs to take joint measures to eliminate traffic congestion and prevent accidents, adding that the ongoing crackdown against overloading, over speeding, underage drivers, and one-way violations should be intensified. He also called for effective measures to recover outstanding traffic challan dues.
