Govt announces early salaries and pensions before Eid-ul-Azha

Published on: May 12, 2026 3:41 PM

The government has decided to release salaries and pensions for public sector employees before Eid-ul-Azha to help families manage expenses and prepare comfortably for the religious festival. The decision aims to provide financial relief ahead of the holidays, when household spending usually increases due to shopping, travel and other Eid-related arrangements across the country.

The Ministry of Finance issued an official notification directing authorities to ensure early payments for government employees and pensioners. According to the notification, salaries and pensions for the month of May will be released on May 22 instead of the regular payment schedule to facilitate workers and retired employees before Eid celebrations begin nationwide.

Furthermore, the Finance Ministry instructed the Controller General of Accounts to complete all arrangements for the timely release of funds. Officials have been directed to coordinate with relevant departments and financial institutions to avoid delays and ensure that employees and pensioners receive their payments smoothly before the Eid holidays officially start.

The early release of salaries and pensions is expected to benefit millions of government workers, retirees and their families across Pakistan. Many households depend heavily on monthly payments to manage essential expenses, while additional Eid spending usually includes sacrificial animals, clothing, food items and transportation costs. The advance payment is therefore likely to provide temporary financial ease during the festive period.

Meanwhile, market activity is also expected to increase following the government’s decision, as consumers generally begin Eid shopping after receiving salaries and pensions. Traders and business owners anticipate stronger commercial activity in major cities and local markets, especially in sectors linked to clothing, food products, livestock and household goods ahead of Eid-ul-Azha celebrations.

Officials said the government regularly considers advance salary and pension payments before major religious festivals to support employees and pensioners during important occasions. Authorities believe the measure not only provides financial convenience but also helps maintain smooth economic activity during the holiday season, when consumer spending and market demand typically rise across different sectors of the economy.
