UAE warns over Iran nuclear program

Published on: May 22, 2026 6:12 PM

UAE presidential adviser Anwar Gargash has said Iran’s nuclear programme has become the region’s top security concern. He stated that it was previously a secondary issue but has now taken priority due to rising tensions. His remarks reflect growing unease among Gulf states over regional stability.

Gargash warned that Iran’s capability to use available weapons adds to strategic uncertainty. He also said any new escalation between the United States and Iran would further complicate the situation. His comments come amid heightened concerns over security in the Strait of Hormuz.

He noted that changes in the Strait of Hormuz would have serious consequences for both the Middle East and Europe. He urged European countries to view the waterway as a critical energy and trade corridor. According to him, disruptions could significantly impact global markets.

The UAE official said diplomatic solutions remain important but warned they should not create further complications. He stressed the need for a balanced approach that avoids worsening regional instability. He also highlighted the importance of avoiding renewed conflict.
