Trump claims Pakistan halted Iran action

Published on: May 28, 2026 12:01 PM

US President Donald Trump claimed that Pakistan requested Washington to halt action against Iran during ongoing regional tensions. Trump said the United States could have treated Iran like Venezuela under strict pressure measures. His remarks have drawn attention across diplomatic and security circles in the region.

Speaking during a television interview, Trump said negotiations with Iran had not yet reached a final agreement stage. He stated that Washington remained dissatisfied with the proposed framework and wanted stronger guarantees from Tehran. According to Trump, Iran was negotiating from a weak position with limited options remaining.

Trump also rejected easing sanctions in exchange for Iran abandoning highly enriched uranium development. He said he would not support transferring Iran’s uranium stockpiles to Russia or China under any arrangement. Furthermore, Trump warned that the United States would “complete the job” if negotiations ultimately failed. However, he claimed military action against Iran was paused after Pakistan’s request.

The US president praised Asim Munir and Shehbaz Sharif during the interview. Trump described both leaders as outstanding personalities while discussing regional diplomacy and security matters. He also compared recent tensions with previous American conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq, which caused thousands of casualties.

Trump further stated that the Strait of Hormuz would remain open for all countries without exclusive control by any state. He added that maritime movement in the strategic waterway would fully resume at an appropriate time. According to Trump, a framework agreement with Iran could immediately improve regional stability and restore normal shipping operations.
