Rain brings relief to Lahore after dust storm

Published on: June 13, 2026 10:15 AM

A spell of rain accompanied by cooler winds brought relief to residents of Lahore after a severe dust storm swept across the city on Friday night, ending a day marked by intense heat and uncomfortable weather conditions.

The rainfall, which began late Friday evening, significantly lowered temperatures and improved the overall atmosphere in the provincial capital. Residents welcomed the change in weather after enduring scorching conditions throughout the day.

However, the rain also caused disruptions in electricity supply across several parts of the city. Multiple feeders operated by the Lahore Electric Supply Company reportedly tripped during the downpour, leading to power outages in a number of residential and commercial areas.

According to reports, rain was recorded in several localities, including Defence, Ghazi Road, Ferozepur Road, Walton, Mall Road, Lakshmi Chowk, Gulshan Ravi, Jail Road, Gulberg, Garden Town, Kalma Chowk, Sanda and surrounding neighborhoods. The widespread rainfall provided welcome relief from the heat but also created temporary inconvenience for residents affected by electricity interruptions.

The change in weather came after strong winds and dust storms reduced visibility in parts of the city, signaling the arrival of a new weather system over the region. Many citizens took advantage of the cooler temperatures by heading outdoors after the rain subsided.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast that the current spell of rain is likely to continue on Saturday. The department has advised citizens to remain cautious during periods of heavy rainfall, particularly while traveling on roads that may become slippery or waterlogged.

Weather experts say the rain is expected to provide further respite from the prevailing hot conditions across Lahore and nearby areas. Authorities are also monitoring the situation to address any disruptions caused by the weather, including power outages and traffic-related issues.
