Japan praises Pakistan’s role in US-Iran peace process

Japan lauds Pakistan's sustained mediatory role in US-Iran peace process | Dunya News

ISLAMABAD: Japan has praised Pakistan’s sustained diplomatic engagement and mediatory efforts in the US-Iran peace process, acknowledging its contribution to the breakthrough agreement aimed at ending months of conflict.

The appreciation came during a telephone conversation between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, according to official sources.

During the call, both sides welcomed the understanding reached between the United States and Iran, describing it as a significant development for regional stability and international peace. They noted that the agreement could help ease tensions in the Middle East and contribute to improved global security conditions.

The Japanese foreign minister particularly appreciated Pakistan’s “sustained mediatory role” and constructive diplomatic efforts throughout the process. He said Pakistan’s engagement had helped facilitate and advance the outcome achieved between the two sides.

Pakistan has been credited by several international stakeholders for playing a behind-the-scenes role in encouraging dialogue between Washington and Tehran, leading to a preliminary agreement that includes a ceasefire framework and provisions for further negotiations on sanctions relief and nuclear-related issues.

Both Islamabad and Tokyo also reaffirmed the importance of continued diplomatic engagement in addressing regional and global challenges. They agreed to maintain close contact and regular exchanges to strengthen bilateral relations and improve coordination on issues of mutual interest.

The discussion also reflected a broader consensus among international partners on the need to support diplomatic solutions to ongoing conflicts, particularly in the Middle East, where tensions have remained high in recent months.

The US-Iran understanding, announced earlier, is expected to be formally signed in Switzerland on June 19, with further negotiations scheduled over the following 60 days to finalise a comprehensive agreement.

The conversation between Pakistan and Japan underscores growing international recognition of diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation and conflict resolution in the region.
