Chinese President Xi Jinping reaffirmed support for Myanmar’s leadership during talks with President Min Aung Hlaing in Beijing. The meeting underscored growing cooperation between the two neighbours and highlighted shared regional interests. The development is significant for regional stability, trade, and China’s strategic influence in Southeast Asia.
During the meeting, Xi pledged to strengthen bilateral relations and deepen comprehensive strategic cooperation. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining long-standing friendship between the two countries. According to Chinese state media, both leaders discussed future collaboration and ways to contribute to regional peace and development.
Min Aung Hlaing is on a five-day state visit to China, marking his first trip there since formalising his presidency after controversial elections. Beijing welcomed him with a state ceremony before the leaders held closed-door talks. Following the discussions, officials from both countries witnessed the signing of multiple cooperation agreements.
The two sides signed 18 memorandums covering transportation, trade, disaster assistance, health, and media cooperation. China remains one of Myanmar’s most important international partners and has invested heavily in infrastructure projects. These include energy pipelines, transport links, and projects connected to the Belt and Road Initiative.
The Beijing meeting was the second between Xi and Min within a year, reflecting increasingly close engagement. Analysts believe the visit may strengthen Myanmar’s ties with China and improve the military-led government’s international standing. Earlier, Min selected India for his first foreign visit as president, but recent developments suggest Beijing is becoming an even more important diplomatic partner.
