Balochistan allocates hefty funds for health, approves 500 new posts

The Balochistan government on Wednesday has included the health sector among its top priorities in the budget for the financial year 2026-27 and announced to allocate billions of rupees for the improvement of medical facilities, upgradation of hospitals and providing better treatment facilities to the public. According to the budget documents, Rs 1.3 billion has been allocated for the expenses of the New Trauma Center to provide modern medical facilities in Quetta, while the Balochistan Health Card (BHC) grant has been increased from Rs 4.5 billion to Rs 6 billion. Similarly, the PPHI grant has been enhanced from Rs 7.6 billion to Rs 8.8 billion. The government has also surged the budget for the purchase of medicines by 23 percent, increasing the amount from Rs 6.9 billion to Rs 8.5 billion, funds have also been allocated for the establishment of thalassemia centers in Kech and Gwadar districts. The grant of Nawab Ghaus Bakhsh Raisani Memorial Hospital, Mastung, has been boosted from Rs 400 million to Rs 735 million, while additional funds have also been allocated for Burn Unit Quetta, Prince Fahd Hospital Dalbandin and Pak Oman Hospital Pasni. The government has also approved 500 new posts in the health department, while the overall non-development budget for the health department is Rs 90 billion and the development budget is Rs 6 billion.
