Ashura observed with nationwide mourning processions

Published on: June 26, 2026 5:47 PM

Ashura processions are underway across Pakistan to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his devoted companions. Thousands of mourners have gathered in major cities for religious observances and mourning ceremonies. Authorities have enforced strict security measures to ensure peaceful commemorations nationwide.

Religious gatherings and mourning processions are being held to remember the tragedy of Karbala. More than 1,400 years ago, Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) embraced martyrdom while standing for truth and justice. His sacrifice remains a lasting symbol of courage, faith, and resistance against oppression.

In Karachi, the main Ashura procession began after a majlis at Nishtar Park. Meanwhile, Lahore’s central procession started from Nisar Haveli inside Mochi Gate. Thousands of men, women, and children are participating in the procession toward Karbala Gamay Shah.

Furthermore, processions are taking place in Multan, Peshawar, Quetta, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gilgit, Skardu, Muzaffarabad, and many other cities. Organizers have arranged sabeels and food distribution to honor Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions. Volunteers are also assisting mourners throughout the day.

Security personnel remain deployed along procession routes across the country. Authorities have implemented comprehensive security plans to maintain law and order. Officials have urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement during the Ashura commemorations.
