PM Shehbaz stresses maritime security importance

Published on: June 27, 2026 11:35 PM

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that uninterrupted and free movement along key maritime trade routes is essential for the global economy. He stressed that recent regional tensions have highlighted the critical importance of maritime security for international trade and stability. The remarks came during a ceremony at the Pakistan Naval Academy in Karachi.

Shehbaz Sharif said that freedom of navigation in strategic sea lanes is no longer a luxury but a necessity for global economic stability. He noted that disruptions in maritime routes can directly impact global supply chains, energy flows and trade connectivity. He added that Pakistan supports safeguarding international shipping routes.

The prime minister said that recent regional developments have demonstrated how vital maritime security is for the world economy. He emphasized that secure sea lanes are essential for sustaining international trade and preventing economic shocks. He also reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to supporting peace and stability at sea.

He further stated that the Iran-US understanding was a positive development for regional stability and appreciated diplomatic efforts by friendly countries. He praised Pakistan’s role in promoting peace, saying the country is recognized globally as a supporter of stability and cooperation.

Shehbaz Sharif also highlighted the importance of Pakistan Navy’s role in safeguarding maritime boundaries and ensuring secure trade routes. He said naval professionalism and preparedness are key to protecting national and international maritime interests.
