Giant MSC Loreto arrives at Karachi Port

Published on: June 30, 2026 8:07 PM

One of the world’s largest container ships, MSC Loreto, has arrived at the South Asia Pakistan Terminals at Karachi Port, marking another milestone for Pakistan’s maritime sector. According to the Karachi Port Trust, the vessel’s arrival highlights the port’s growing ability to accommodate some of the largest container ships operating worldwide.

MSC Loreto measures 399.9 metres in length and has a carrying capacity of 24,346 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), placing it among the world’s biggest container vessels. During its latest visit, the ship transported 3,802 TEUs of cargo destined for Karachi, supporting commercial activity and the movement of imported goods through the country’s busiest seaport.

Port officials said the successful handling of such a large vessel demonstrates Karachi Port’s operational efficiency and its capability to manage ultra-large container ships safely. Moreover, the achievement reflects continued improvements in navigation systems, cargo handling facilities, and terminal operations that allow larger vessels to dock without disrupting port activities.

The Karachi Port Trust also attributed the development to ongoing investment in modern port infrastructure and upgraded terminal facilities. These improvements have strengthened the port’s capacity to handle increasing cargo volumes while improving turnaround times and overall efficiency for international shipping companies operating in the region.

Officials believe the arrival of MSC Loreto will further support Pakistan’s maritime trade and reinforce Karachi Port’s position within the global shipping network. As international trade continues to expand, the ability to accommodate larger container vessels is expected to improve supply chain connectivity, increase cargo handling capacity, and enhance the country’s role in regional and international commerce.
