At least two people died and nine others were injured in rain-related incidents across Punjab during the past 24 hours. The casualties followed strong winds, heavy rain, and lightning as pre-monsoon weather intensified. Residents across Punjab remain affected as authorities warn of more severe weather until July 6.
Rescue 1122 spokesperson Farooq Ahmad said both fatalities occurred in Attock after a wall collapsed near Naya Pump. The incident also injured three people during heavy rain and strong winds. Meanwhile, another roof collapsed in Attock’s Para Shaheen Bagh, injuring three more residents. Rescue teams responded to the affected areas and shifted victims for medical treatment.
Elsewhere, one person suffered injuries after lightning struck in Khushab’s Quaidabad area. In Sargodha, strong winds caused a signboard to collapse, injuring another person. Similarly, a wooden roof collapsed on Chak Risala Road in Sheikhupura, leaving one person injured. Officials linked the incidents to severe pre-monsoon weather conditions.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department said a westerly wave and moisture currents are driving the current weather system. Consequently, widespread windstorms and thundershowers are expected across Punjab until July 6. Authorities have also warned about urban flooding in major cities and lightning risks in open areas. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority directed district administrations to remain on high alert.
According to the weather department, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, and Faisalabad may receive rain through July 6. Southern districts, including Multan, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Rajanpur, are expected to receive rainfall from July 3 to 5. Authorities urged residents to follow safety advisories during severe weather.
