Russia says 38 civilians killed by Ukraine

Published on: July 10, 2026 5:33 PM

Russia has claimed that 38 civilians, including one child, were killed in Ukrainian attacks over the past week, according to Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova. Moscow said the strikes also left hundreds of civilians injured. The claims could further escalate tensions as the war between Russia and Ukraine continues.

Speaking on the latest developments in the conflict, Zakharova said a total of 308 civilians were affected during the reporting period. She stated that 38 people, including one child, were killed, while 270 others, including eight children, sustained injuries. The casualty figures were presented by the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Zakharova accused the government of Volodymyr Zelenskyy of increasing attacks on Russian civilian areas and critical infrastructure. She alleged that Ukrainian forces had intensified operations against non-military targets in recent days. Ukraine has not immediately responded to these specific allegations.

The Russian spokeswoman further claimed that Kyiv was attempting to demonstrate the effectiveness of Western military assistance. According to her, the objective was to secure additional military support from Ukraine’s international allies. She argued that continued attacks were intended to strengthen Ukraine’s case for further weapons supplies.

The figures and allegations were presented by Russian officials and could not be independently verified. Both Russia and Ukraine have repeatedly accused each other of targeting civilian areas since the conflict began. The war continues to generate heavy casualties and widespread humanitarian concerns across the region.
