JD Vance warns against H-1B visa fraud

Published on: July 10, 2026 11:38 PM

US Vice President JD Vance said American jobs should benefit American workers, warning that the Trump administration is intensifying efforts against alleged abuse of the H-1B visa program. He said investigations into suspected visa fraud are underway and promised stricter enforcement. The remarks come as the administration increases scrutiny of employment-based immigration programs.

Speaking during a visit to the Wisconsin Air National Guard’s 128th Air Refueling Wing in Milwaukee, Vance said the H-1B visa program was originally designed to attract highly skilled foreign professionals. He said the program was intended for exceptional scientists, technology experts, doctors, and other specialized workers. However, he argued that its purpose has gradually been undermined.

Vance alleged that some major companies and foreign actors have exploited the visa system to reduce wages and undermine opportunities for American workers. He said the US Department of Labor had already issued subpoenas to multiple individuals and organizations as part of investigations into alleged misuse of the program. He added that authorities are working to protect taxpayers and ensure compliance with immigration laws.

The vice president said the administration would not allow individuals or companies to exploit the H-1B system for unfair advantage. According to Vance, those found attempting to abuse the visa program could face denial of entry into the United States. He said the administration remains committed to enforcing the program’s original purpose.

The H-1B visa allows US employers to hire qualified foreign professionals in specialized occupations when certain legal requirements are met. The program has long been debated in the United States, with supporters highlighting its role in addressing skilled labor shortages and critics arguing that it can affect employment opportunities and wages for domestic workers.
