ISLAMABAD: Former Prime Minister (PM) Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday remarked that uncivilised restrictions could not be imposed in the country.
While addressing the media outside accountability court, Nawaz said that the world had changed but we hadn’t. Shairf added that old mistakes should not be made.
Sharif appeared before the court hearing Avenfield properties reference case against Nawaz and family.
Former premier in reference to Lahore High Court’s (LHC) decision of banning ‘contemptuous’ remarks from being aired said that the court should have a clear picture of what is meant by anti-judiciary.
Sharif said that one’s right to freedom of speech couldn’t be restricted in Pakistan. He said that civilian governments had achieved so much in Pakistan due to historic decisions like atomic tests.
Nawaz added that he regretted nothing and had moved on. He also said that the opposition parties should have moved on so the real issues were resolved. Sharif further said that now that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was investigating into the matter of widening of Raiwind road, it should also probe into Motorway project and the atomic tests.
Upon being questioned about the party defectors, Maryam Nawaz said that Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) had its vote bank and members that did not defect in the face of power.
