NAB team off to KPK to arrest Safdar

Published on: July 7, 2018 10:57 PM

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) team has left for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) to arrest Captain (retd) Safdar Awan, who has been awarded one year imprisonment in the Avenfield property reference verdict.

Safdar’s name has already been added to the black list barring him from fleeing the country.

An accountability court hearing corruption references against the Sharif family on Friday sentenced ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif to 10 years in prison over his family’s purchase of London’s Avenfield apatments. Maryam Nawaz was sentenced to 7 years while her husbanand was handed one-year jail term. The court also imposed 8m pounds on Nawaz, 2m pounds on Maryam and ordered confiscation of the London properties.

However, it has been questioned why the police have not yet arrested Captain (r) Safdar who is residing in his hometown (Mansehra) even after the verdict.

According to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Hazara Alam Shinwari, Safdar’s arrest warrants have not yet been issued to the police. He added that whenever the arrest warrants are issued, PML-N leader will be arrested at once.
