Political leaders condemn attack on Durrani’s convoy

BANNU: Politicians condemned the terrorist attack in Bannu on Friday morning, that claimed the lives of at least four people, and left 31 wounded.

The blast occurred near the site where election rally Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) was held, in Haved area of Bannu on Friday morning.

Politicians including, Bilawal Bhutto, Imran Khan and Dr Hasan Askari condemned the attack.

Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has strongly condemned terrorist bombing and stressed for adequate security to the contesting candidates in the wake of growing terrorist threats.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan expressed sorrow over the loss of human lives. Imran, while condemning the attack, expressed satisfaction on the safety of the MMA leader. The PTI chief stressed that security lapses should not occur. “The enemy wants the electoral process to be unstable, interim governments should prioritize the security of candidates”. He stressed. Adding to that he said impartial polls in a peaceful environment are necessary for Pakistan’s future.

Punjab interim chief minister Dr Hasan Askari expressed sympathy with the families of the deceased and prayed for the recovery of the injured ones.”None of the religions in this world allows the killing of innocent people,” Askari said. He further stated that the entire nation is united against terrorism.

According to the police, Durrani’s convoy was headed towards a rally of JUI-F near Bannu when the blast occurred. After the blast, security forces got on site immediately to take the injured to hospitals.

Initial reports suggest that four people died and thirty-one sustained injuries. However, Durrani is safe. The injured include police officials and children. They were immediately transferred to the nearest local hospitals following the attack.
