Gas prices not being increased for power, CNG sectors

Published on: March 31, 2019 2:55 AM

The Petroleum Division confirms that the prices for natural gas and RLNG consumers are not being increased on account of RLNG, sold by SNGPL to the domestic sector during the winter season, and hence the news item is not factual. Accordingly, RLNG price will not be increased for power and CNG sectors. It is further clarified that the Gas Company has not incurred any loss in respect of sale of RLNG to domestic consumers during the winter season. Under the ECC decision taken on 11.05.2018, the Gas Banking Mechanism has already been approved by OGRA under which RLNG is sold as system gas during the winter season while the same is recovered during the summer season on an on-going and multi year basis. These adjustments allowed by OGRA on the basis of final accounts of the Company on a ring fenced basis in accordance with the OGRA Law. It is highlighted that RLNG was routed to domestic sector during winter months to ensure continuous supply of gas during the peak demand period. Resultantly, the gas pressure in the domestic sector has been far better this year as compared to the previous years.
