Lemar leaves it late to give Atletico win at Eibar

Published on: April 21, 2019 2:49 AM

EIBAR: Atletico Madrid’s record signing Thomas Lemar came off the bench to score late on and snatch a 1-0 win at Eibar on Saturday, provisionally taking Atletico six points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona. The France winger raced towards the far post to meet a pass from midfielder Koke and slam the ball into the net from close range in the 85th minute. Atletico had the better chances in an open and end-to-end game and Argentine forward Angel Correa missed their clearest opportunity to score, firing straight into the body of Eibar keeper Marko Dmitrovic within the opening 10 minutes. Lemar’s late winner means Diego Simeone’s side have 68 points after 33 games, six fewer than Barca who can restore their advantage at the top of the table back to nine points when they host Real Sociedad later on Saturday.
