Peshawar: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday inaugurated the balloting ceremony of a housing scheme for labourers in Peshawar.
Executed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, 2,056 family flats will be given on propriety rights to the registered workers of the province. Three percent quota for widows and two percent for disabled persons have been allocated in it. The low-cost housing project also has a school comprising 30 class rooms. Prime Minister Imran Khan will also speak on the occasion.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony in Peshawar today, he said his government is committed to facilitate lower segments of society as per vision of the State of Madinah. He said no attention was paid to the poor class by successive regimes in past. He said PTI is the first government, which is focusing on the welfare of the opporessed and neglected people thorugh provision of health cards and housing facilities.
Talking about the construction work on Mohmand Dams, the Prime Minister said this reservoir will be completed by 2025 and it will irrigate 17,000 acres of land, provide 300 million gallon water to the residents of Peshawar and generate cheap electricity. Imran Khan said 10 smaller and bigger dams will be constructed in the country by 2028 to take care of electricity needs and food security of the country.
It is pertinent to mention that 2,056 family flats will be distributed among registered workers of the province through balloting. Three percent quota has been reserved for widows and two percent for differently abled people. The project, also include a school comprising 30 class rooms.
Prime Minister Imran Khan will also visit Mohmand Dam site today (Wednesday) to review the construction work.
On the occasion, Chairman WAPDA Muzammil Hussain will brief the Prime Minister about the progress on the project. Prime Minister Imran Khan had performed the groundbreaking of Mohmand Dam in 2019.
The dam is being constructed on River Swat in Mohmand District. This multipurpose dam costing Rs 309.6 billion will have a height of 213 meter. This will have water storage capacity of 1.293 million acre feet and help generate 800MW of electricity. In terms of electricity, irrigation and flood protection, the country will accrue an annual benefit of RS 50 billion after the completion of Mohmand Dam.
On the special directions of the Prime Minister, work on the project is in full swing without any halt due to the COVID-19. WAPDA is committed to complete the project in its stipulated period by 2025.
