Tragedy in Hyderabad: Fire in Indian building claims 17 lives, including six children

Published on: May 18, 2025 5:07 PM

A devastating fire broke out in a multi-story building in Hyderabad, India, claiming the lives of 17 people, including six children under the age of five. The incident has left the local community in shock.

According to Indian media, the fire started due to a short circuit on the ground floor of the building, which housed a jewelry store. The upper floors were residential, with multiple families living in the building.

Witnesses reported that the flames quickly spread from the ground level to the upper floors, engulfing the entire structure within minutes. The intense heat and smoke made escape difficult for many residents, especially those on the higher floors.

Firefighters arrived promptly after being alerted and worked tirelessly to control the blaze. They also carried out rescue operations and began cooling efforts to prevent the fire from reigniting. Several injured victims were rushed to nearby hospitals.

Unfortunately, despite swift action, 17 people lost their lives, including six young children. Dozens of others suffered injuries and are currently receiving treatment. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause and assess building safety standards.

This tragic event has raised serious concerns about fire safety in residential-commercial buildings across India. Meanwhile, local officials have assured that further steps will be taken to avoid such incidents in the future.
